2009 GLOBAL GAMES

The second Global Games will be held from 5 to 13 July 2009. The participating athletes will compete in athletics, cycling, basketball, futsal (indoor five-a-side football), swimming, table tennis, tennis, and in judo and indoor rowing as demonstration sports. 1,460 athletes from 40 countries had confirmed their participation by the end of May. The participants of the 2009 Global Games will be provided with accommodation on the campus of the Technical University in Liberec (the facilities used for the 2009 World Cross Country Skiing Championships).

The 2009 Global Games, organized by the International Sports Federation for Persons with an Intellectual Disability (INAS-FID) and the Czech Sports Association for Mentally Handicapped (CSAMH), will be held at modern venues in Liberec and Jablonec nad Nisou, enjoying substantial support of the Liberec Region and the towns of Liberec, Jablonec nad Nisou and Český Dub.

The Games will be held under the auspices of the President of the Czech Senate, Dr. Přemysl Sobotka. The partners of the 2009 Global Games include the 10th European Youth Olympic Winter Festival (EYOWF) 2011, the next major sporting event to be hosted by the Liberec Region.

News and updates from the Global Games will be published by the press center set up especially for the Games. The results of all the competitions will be thus available on this website. Updates will be further broadcast in the form of internet TV news.

The admission to all sporting events and competitions will be free.
