In 2004, the International Sports Federation for People with an Intellectual Disability (INAS-FID) was confirmed as a member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and both organizations have been working on a solution allowing athletes with intellectual disabilities to reenter the Paralympics and all other IPC-organized competitions ever since. A work group composed of representatives of both organizations has been set up to define specific rules for participation of athletes with intellectual disabilities and to create a system for their registration in the individual competitions. All facts seem to indicate that athletes with intellectual disabilities may compete at the XIV Summer Paralympics in London.
